General Description: This course is a continuation of the solid state physics 1, which focuses more on the phenomenology of solid state physics. It starts with optical properties and magnetic properties of materials, and then different classes of materials including semiconductors, polymers, ceramics, superconductors, magnetic materials and optical materials are introduced.

Text book: The main text is "Physics and Chemistry of Materials", by Gersten and Smith.
